Electrical installer VET

As an electrical installer, you will install and maintain electrical systems such as internet and electricity networks, lightning rods, alarm systems and automatic controls for ventilation, heating and lighting. You can expect a varied day-to-day schedule, working on major construction sites, in residential buildings or in industrial operations with a wide range of customer contacts.

What we’re looking for

  • You have an interest in electrical engineering, electricity and technology.
  • You are focused and precise in your work. You liked geometry, maths and physics at school.
  • You think logically and understand technical things quickly.
  • You like working with your hands, you’re skilled in manual labour and want to see what you’ve achieved at the end of a working day.
  • You like working independently and also enjoy communication within a team and contact with customers.

How an electrical installer apprenticeship works

Every year, the BKW Group offers apprenticeships for federally certified (VET) electrical installers. During your apprenticeship, you will work on numerous interesting projects and help us electrify the world. Here’s what your apprenticeship might look like day to day:

Duration: 4 years

 

Locations: Various private and commercial construction sites

Training days in 1st year of apprenticeship: 1 day a week

Training days from 2nd year on: 2 days every 2 weeks

External courses: 2–3 weeks per apprenticeship year

Other options: Federal Vocational Baccalaureate, apprenticeship & sport, Swiss Skills regional championships, first aid courses, examination for aerial work platforms

Extras: personal protective equipment to prevent falls

You have successfully completed your apprenticeship. But what happens next?

As an electrical installer with a VET diploma, you have chosen trailblazing basic training which you can build on to further your development.

At BKW, we offer a wide range of options.

  • In most cases, you can continue working for the BKW Group if that’s what you want.
  • You can sit for the Federal Vocational Baccalaureate or master diploma, or take on further training as a safety officer or project manager and reduce your workload to part-time.
  • Perhaps you have your eye on a higher position for which you need a degree (technical/vocational college or university of applied sciences)? We’ll help you work out how to get there.
