Electrical planner VET

As an electrical planner, you will plan grids for reliable electricity distribution from power plants to buildings and implement electrical installations for the supply of electricity, such as electrical systems in building technology. This versatile profession combines working with special computer programs with planning and drawing by hand.

What we’re looking for

  • You have an interest in electrical engineering, electricity and technology.
  • You are focused and precise in your work. You liked geometry, maths and physics at school.
  • You think logically, have good spatial awareness and are able to quickly make sense of numbers and calculations.
  • You enjoy concentrating on new solutions and developing precise plans, and you have a talent for organisation.
  • You enjoy working independently and also interacting with a team.

How an electrical planner apprenticeship works

Every year, the BKW Group offers apprenticeships for federally certified (VET) electrical planners. During your apprenticeship, you will work on numerous interesting projects and help us electrify the world. Here’s what your apprenticeship might look like day to day:

Duration: 4 years


Locations: in buildings and network infrastructure installations, as well as in residential and office buildings at partner companies and in telecommunications

Training days: 1–1.5 days per week

External courses: 1–3 weeks per apprenticeship year

Other options: Federal Vocational Baccalaureate, apprenticeship & sport

You’ve done it!


You have successfully completed your apprenticeship. But what happens next?

As an electrical planner with a VET diploma, you have chosen trailblazing basic training which you can build on to further your development.

At BKW, we offer a wide range of options.

  • In most cases, you can continue working for the BKW Group if that’s what you want.
  • You can sit for the Federal Vocational Baccalaureate or take on further training as a master builder, site manager or one of many other professions and reduce your workload to part-time.
  • Perhaps you have your eye on a higher position for which you need a degree (technical/vocational college or university of applied sciences)? We’ll help you work out how to get there.
