Installation electrician VET

As an installation electrician, you will install connections for electricity, telephone, internet, TV and radio in residential, commercial and industrial buildings, lay cables, install switch boxes and connect appliances. This role requires strength and dexterity and you will be on the road at various locations with your team.

How an installation electrician apprenticeship works

Every year, the BKW Group offers apprenticeships for federally certified (VET) installation electricians. During your apprenticeship, you will work on numerous interesting projects and help us electrify the world. Here’s what your apprenticeship might look like day to day:

Duration: 3 years


Locations: new constructions and conversions

Training days in 1st year of apprenticeship: 1.5 days per week

External courses: 3 weeks in the 1st year of apprenticeship, then 2 weeks each

Other options: Federal Vocational Baccalaureate, potentially apprenticeship & sport

You have successfully completed your apprenticeship. But what happens next?

As an installation electrician with a VET diploma, you have chosen trailblazing basic training which you can build on to further your development.

At BKW, we offer a wide range of options.

  • In most cases, you can continue working for the BKW Group if that’s what you want.
  • You can sit for a Federal Vocational Baccalaureate, take on further or secondary training as a grid electrician or electrical installer and reduce your workload to part-time.
  • Perhaps you have your eye on a higher position for which you need a degree (technical/vocational college or university of applied sciences)? We’ll help you work out how to get there.
