What we’re looking for in candidates for a second apprenticeship

  • You are interested in maths and computers and have good English skills.
  • You think logically, have a good ability to combine ideas and are patient and creative enough to solve complex tasks.
  • You are systematic in your work with an outstanding ability to concentrate.
  • You have good spatial awareness and a sense for abstractions.
  • You like switching between working independently and working in a team.

How an IT consultant apprenticeship works

Every year, the BKW Group offers apprenticeships for federally certified (VET) IT consultants. During your apprenticeship, you will encounter numerous interesting topics and work with us to advance BKW’s IT. Here’s what your apprenticeship might look like day to day:

IT consultant VET (platform development)
You will be responsible for stability, data protection and security across the entire network on servers, in the public or private cloud and on end devices. You will plan infrastructures, implement them with programming languages such as Python and PowerShell, and ensure they operate well.

IT consultant VET (application development)
You will program software applications, test them and adapt them as required. You will train users to use the new software. You will analyse problems and create innovative solutions using IT tools.

Duration: 4 years

Locations: Bern and approx. 4 months in Nidau

Training days 1st–2nd year: 2 days a week

Training days 3rd–4th year: 1 day a week

External courses: 7 courses in the first year of your apprenticeship

Other options: Federal Vocational Baccalaureate, participation in BBC talent development, Swiss Skills, etc.

You’ve done it!

You have successfully completed your apprenticeship. But what happens next?

As an IT consultant with a VET diploma, you have chosen trailblazing basic training which you can build on to further your development.

At BKW, we offer a wide range of options.

  • In most cases, you can continue working for the BKW Group if that’s what you want.
  • You can also sit for the Federal Vocational Baccalaureate or take on further education and reduce your workload to part-time.
  • Perhaps you have your eye on a higher position for which you need a degree (technical/vocational college or university of applied sciences)? We’ll help you work out how to get there.
